Saturday morning in Krems

Saturday morning in Krems

Rudi invited us to go to the Saturday farmer’s market, and while there, we noticed that there would be a special commemorative Mass to celebrate the priest’s 60th birthday in the Krems church, featuring a full Mozart mass. Of course we went! The church was frigid – heating is still not customary in many Austrian churches – but the music was beautiful. In the market, we enjoyed the beautiful, fresh local produce as well. I was particularly amused by the “Pastor Pears”!

After the market and Mozart mass, we were hosted once more at the Pietsch’s restaurant, where we had another huge traditional meal, and had the chance to meet a local historian who told us more stories of Krems and the Wachau region. Both Rudi and his friend lamented the lack of funds and commitment necessary for historic preservation.
