Guardian Angel – Zurich Hauptbahnhof

Guardian Angel - Zurich Hauptbahnhof

After such a full day of both adventure and contemplation, the sequence of trains back to Bern was a jarring jolt of modern reality. The experience was considerably lightened by this colorful and zaftig guardian angel by sculptor Niki de St. Phalle. She is huge, and truly bodacious! From the Zurich tourist web site zuerich.com: “The Schutzengel (guardian angel) statue that hangs high above the heads of travelers in the large hall at the Main Railway Station protects them day and night. With her happy, voluminous “Nana” figures, Niki de St. Phalle was originally mocked by art colleagues but has now become world-famous. These statues represent vivacious, liberated, self-confident women. On the international art market, Niki de St. Phalle’s work is among the most sought-after contemporary art.”
