After our idyllic evening at the opera, we drove through a dramatic thunderstorm to my hosts’ home in the village of Dunavarsány (pronounced Doo-na-VAR-shy). I stayed the night in this newly built Community Center which belongs to the Reformed Church of Dunavarsány where my hosts are all lay leaders. The center is an extension of a Habitat for Humanity project, but was built entirely by the church after Habitat finished its work in Dunavarsány. The church wanted to create a meeting place for the Habitat residents and the community to promote community collaboration. The project was funded in part by the PCUSA, including help from Peachtree Pres in Atlanta. The church and community center have hosted yearly educational visits from Columbia Seminary students, and there is a strong relationship with the seminary.
