Grape Terraces along the Donau

After lunch, we were treated to a brief ferry ride down the Donau. Although the weather was drizzly and gray, we could still appreciate the beauty of the mountains and terraced vineyards along the way. Here is one village along the way. This old style of viticulture is extremely labor intensive, because the steep terraces require hand picking. It is a way of life that may be fading as younger generations turn to more mechanized approaches.
