Tuesday Sept. 23 was my initial appointment at the Freud Museum with my key contact person, research staff, Daniela Finzi (who has been a wonderful guide and already friend), and the Museum Director Inge Scholz-Strasser, who was most gracious and welcoming. And of course, my first appointment of the semester with Herr Prof. Dr. Freud! This is the reading room with the main reference collection. The library houses over 35,000 volumes on psychoanalysis, as well as an archive. (Many of the archival materials are actually housed in London where Freud emigrated in the last year of his life, and the largest collection of papers is actually at the Library of Congress in Washington, DC – so I will have lots to do there once I’m back in the US.) It is certainly a unique feeling to be in a house with so much history, and in the home of this brilliant, neurotic, maddening, so important genius and founder of psychoanalysis!
